How’s the snow?
The first week of ski season is in the books and every day I get asked ‘how’s the snow?’
Years ago we would always try to ski Whiteface on Black Friday or Thanksgiving weekend. Usually it was one run on little Whiteface and just before the mid station lodge we would be popping off our skis and walking through mud. But hey, it was November and we were skiing.
Boy how times have changed. The snow making crew and groomers at Whiteface is at the top of their game. The trials that are open have great coverage. The snow is mostly soft and well maintained. Some natural snow the last few days has added some packed powder on the edges of the trail and on December 4th we’re making top to bottom runs- off the summit!
This summer the crew at Whiteface replaced over 30,000 feet of snowmaking pipe. The old pipe was installed for the 1980 Olympics and the improvements allow them to use higher pressure to make more snow. Clearly it’s working!

Having great early season snow is a bonus and it will pay off all season long!
